Greece: Athens & the Islands

Blue-domed churches above the sea in Santorini, Greece

Greece is one of the most romantic and rewarding trips in the world, ancient history, whitewashed island villages, turquoise water, and some of the best food anywhere. It is a dream honeymoon and a wonderful family trip. Here is how I plan it.

Athens and the mainland

Start in Athens for the Acropolis and the layers of ancient history, a day or two is plenty before you head to the islands.

The islands

  • Santorini, the iconic caldera views and sunsets, pure romance.
  • Mykonos, chic, lively, and beach-club glamorous.
  • Crete, the biggest island, with history, food, and beaches for a fuller trip.
  • Paros, Naxos, and Milos, quieter, more authentic island life.

Island-hopping by ferry is the classic way; a private yacht is the ultimate one. Just next door, the Croatian coast (Dubrovnik, Hvar) offers a similar Mediterranean magic if you want to combine.

When to go

May, June, and September are ideal, warm and beautiful without peak-summer crowds and heat.

Why plan Greece with me

The magic is in the islands you choose, the order, and the ferries or yacht that connect them, and the best hotels sell out early. I design the route and arrange it through my trusted partners on the ground. Because it is a long-haul flight, it is worth reading whether business class is worth it for the trip over.
