Beach Vacations with Kids: A Guide by Age

A beach vacation is the ultimate family trip, especially with little ones, and it is exactly what I recommend most for young families. The reason is simple: the right beach trip removes the logistics. Here is how I plan it.

Why all-inclusives win with little kids

For kids under about ten, an all-inclusive resort is hard to beat, everything is contained and safe, there are kids’ clubs, pools, and beaches, meals are handled, and you never have to go far. The Dominican Republic is the champion here, with world-class all-inclusives at every budget, see my Dominican Republic guide.

Puerto Rico: no passport, easy exploring

Puerto Rico is a dream for U.S. families, no passport needed, and it pairs beach days with easy adventures, El Yunque rainforest, Old San Juan, and, for older kids, the glowing bio bay. See my Puerto Rico guide.

Miami: the family city-and-beach

Miami combines beaches with a real city: family-friendly hotels, easy flights, and rainy-day backups like the aquarium and the Frost science museum. See my Miami guide and Miami art guide.

By age

Under ten, lean on the all-inclusive or cruise ease; from about ten up, add the snorkeling, the rainforest, and the adventures. Either way, the beach is a trip everyone remembers, and the parents finally get to relax.

The details that make or break a family beach trip are the ones you cannot see online. Kids-club age cutoffs, connecting-room guarantees, and which pools and beaches actually suit little ones vary wildly by resort, and a connecting room booked online is often not guaranteed until you arrive. I match the resort to your kids’ ages and lock the room setup, so the trip works from the first day.

Why plan a family beach trip with me

I match the resort to your kids’ ages, find the ones with the best kids’ clubs and safest layouts, and handle everything so your time off is truly off. See my family travel guide for kids at every age. In English or Español.
